The Arcada
Roger's ship, the Arcada, is going to explode in 15 minutes! How do
I get out of here?
You're going to have to get down to the pod bay and get away in the esacpe
pod.
What do I need to do here before I go?
Walk three screens west from where you started and you'll be next to the
body of your friend, Jerry. Search him to get a red keycard. You'll also
need to get a cartridge from the data archive and something from the star
generator room. The data archive is the big room one screen west of where
you started, and the star generator room is one level below you, under
and one screen west of the data archive. When you've gotten everything,
use the elevator on the lower level, one screen east of the data archive
to go down to the lab level, then go to the right side of the lab, take
the elevator to the flight preparation room, and enter the pod bay from
there.
Are the bodies important?
One is. The body two screens west of the data archive on the upper floor
is Roger's friend Jerry. Search him with the hand cursor and you'll find
an important keycard.
What do I need from the data archive?
You need a data cartridge that will help you beat the game! After entering
the archive once, leave and enter it again, then walk down to the south
side of the room. A dying scientist will stumble in, and fall to the floor.
Talk to him, then click the hand on the big computer in the center of the
room. Look in the small documentation that came with the game for the code
that represents the phrase he spoke, then enter the code in on the keypad.
When the retrieval robot gets the cartridge, take it from him.
Sariens keep shooting me no matter where I go!
Whenever you hear footsteps, duck into a door or elevator, or leave the
screen in the direction that you are already walking; that should get you
away safely. If you're in the middle of the lab, hide completely behind
the giant joystick or mouse to evade them.
The star generator's gone, so what the heck do I do in here?
In case you weren't aware, the Sariens stole it. However, they left another
piece of equipment lying around here. You should see a glinting object
attached to the star generator's shattered cradle. It's called a magnetic
widget. Take it, you'll need it later in the game.
How do I get out of these two levels!?
Elementary, my dear Roger. Just go in the elevator to the east of the data
archive on the lower floor.
I can't get in the elevator on the right side of the lab.
Look at it, dumbo. There's a keycard slot by it. The message you got told
you that you need a keycard. You need to get the keycard from Jerry, the
body two screens west of the data archive. Once you have it, put it in
the slot.
I'm in the flight preparation room. What now?
What else, prepare for flight. Open the closet and put on the spacesuit,
then open the drawer to its left and take the odd gadget inside. Click
the hand on the airlock door to open it, and walk through.
I entered the pod bay and popped!
That's what happens when you enter vacuum without protection! Wear the
spacesuit in the flight preparation room's closet before you enter the
pod bay.
I got in the escape pod, now how do I get it to leave the ship?
Look at the three buttons next to Roger's head, and push the one labeled
"Power". Then click the hand on the seatbelt (also by your head)
to fasten it and pull back the throttle to blast off. If you don't fasten
the seatbelt, you will die when you leave the ship.
Whenever I try to leave the ship, the pod crashes into the bay doors and
kills me! Is something wrong?
I'm afraid so. You need to open the bay doors before the pod can fly out
of the Arcada. Go back to the lab. On the right side of the lab, by the
elevator with the keycard slot, is a control panel. Look at it and press
the button marked "Open".
Do I need to push the button in the escape pod labeled "Do not touch"?
The button's label is telling you not to press it, so don't! If you do,
save your game, and enjoy the wonderful advertisement for another Sierra
product.
I got out of the Arcada, but the pod isn't flying anyplace.
You have to direct it to fly somewhere, dummy. Look at the three buttons
again and press the one labeled "AutoNav".
The pod crashed on Kerona! How do I get out? Is there anything I need
from it?
Unfasten the seatbelt to exit the pod. Click the hand on the pod door to
get the survival kit inside, and take the piece of broken glass lying in
front of the pod.
When I walk away from the pod, a sandworm eats me!
Don't walk away in any direction except for east.
I'm at the skeleton of some giant animal. What can I do here?
Look around on the three screens on the west side of the skeleton; there
are clusters of sticky purple plants growing on two of them. Take a piece
of plant, then, if it hasn't, walk around until a Sarien spider droid lands
and starts chasing Roger.
I died of thirst!
Inside the survival kit from the escape pod is a canister of dehydrated
water. Drink some whenever you are thirsty.
A Sarien spider droid landed and is chasing me around, trying to kill me.
Can I get rid of it?
Yes. Use the ramp that the skeleton forms at the top of its backbone to
get up onto the backbone, then go to the screen with the cracked bridge
and look around. In front of the bridge is a broken piece of backbone.
Wait until the droid skitters under it, then push the piece over onto the
droid to kill it. If you miss, restore your game. You can also kill the
droid by luring it into the skull after you (see the hint about the big
monster in the skull).
I got up onto the skeleton; is it safe to walk on that cracked piece of
backbone?
Yes, but only two times, once to find out your mission in this area, and
once to bring evidence that you completed the mission.
I walked into the skull of the beast, and a big orange monster sees me
and kills me! How do I dispose of him?
You can simply walk into the cave and throw the canister of dehydrated
water to him; he'll swallow it whole and explode. You can also let the
spider droid follow you into the cave, then hide behind the big rock near
the entrance. The droid and the monster will wipe each other out. Once
the monster is dead, take the piece of his anatomy that is lying on the
ground.
Is there anything important that I need to do with the skeleton?
Walk up the ramp formed by the neck and take the backbone to the tail.
On the tail, walk forward, and you'll be dumped down a shaft and into an
underground cave.
In the cave, some ugly tentacled monster came up out of the grate and ate
me.
You'll have to feed it something else. How about purple plant? If you didn't
get a piece of plant on the surface, go back one screen and take the tip
of the stalagmite which somebody glued to the stalagmite with a piece of
plant. Take the plant from the stalagmite. When you have the plant, toss
it to the grate monster.
I can' t get through the glowing door!
If you don't have it, go back and get the tip of the stalagmite from the
first screen in the cave. Plug the small geyser by the door up with the
stalagmite tip to open the door.
I touched the pool of acid and died!
Don't touch it then!
How do I get through these stupid laser beams?
You should be carrying the piece of broken glass from the pod's windshield.
Use it to reflect the beams on their electrodes and fry them out.
I can't seem to get past those drops of acid.
Look on the ground. There are visible spots where the acid is dripping.
Avoid walking on those spots to pass this puzzle.
I encountered a huge holographic head, but I couldn't understand what it
said!
If you can, restore a game, and go back to the screen just before the head.
Before you enter the head's room, flip the switch on the gadget from the
drawer in the Arcada's flight preparation room in inventory; the device
is a dialect translator. Now you can tell what the head is saying. If you
don't have the translator, restore a game and get it before leaving the
Arcada.
