I'm wandering around Xenon with no purpose. What do I do here?
You'll need to acquire a few items, head into the sewers, and eventually
reach the landing bay of the huge domed red building to the north, the
Xenon Super Computer.
The zombie keeps killing me!
You're not avoiding him, are you? Whenever you see him, leave the screen,
or duck behind something until he's gone.
The droid o' death keeps finding me and shooting me!
You'll have to leave the screen when it comes, or duck behind something
until it leaves. It usually will come back to the screen after it's entered
once, so you probably should speed up the game in order to do what you
need to as quickly as possible and get out.
What can I do with the Energizer Bunny?
He's pretty cute, isn't he? You need that battery on his back that makes
him keep going and going. To get the battery, of course, you'll have to
catch him. You'll need the frayed rope lying on the rubble at the southeast
corner of the plaza. Walk into the recess in the wall in the same screen
with the rope, and click the rope cursor on the sidewalk to lay it out
in a noose. Wait until the bunny marches into the noose, then click the
hand cursor on the rope to grab him. In inventory, look at the bunny to
see his back. Take his battery out. You'll use the battery to provide a
power source for the PocketPal computer that you find in the streets.
I found a wrecked street skimmer. What is its purpose?
Well, you sure can't use it to go anywhere now. Click the hand on it to
see a closeup of its dashboard. Open the glove compartment, then take the
PocketPal laptop computer inside it.
What's so important about the old tank?
It contains a shell in it known as an unstable ordinance. Look in the hole
in the front of the tank, and take the ordinance inside it, then put the
ordinance back in to earn a few points. If you want, save your game, and
try taking the ordinance with you down the sewers; Roger will be blown
up.
I have the laptop computer, and the Energizer Bunny (and battery) What
now?
Go to the screen just east and north of where you entered Xenon, and click
the hand on the loose sewer grate to the north side of the screen to enter
the sewers.
What's to be done in the janitorial room in the sewers?
Lift up the blotter on the desk, and Roger will press a concealed button
to receive a holographic message from one of the engineers of the Xenon
Super Computer. After you have heard the message, take the empty jar on
the desk and open the odd-looking steel door on the left wall to enter
the sewer tunnels.
Some gloppy, acidic slime started following me in the sewers and killed
me! How do I avoid it?
Oh, allow me to inform you that you'll need to collect some of it as well
as kill it. Go down the passage its chasing you down until you come to
a horizontal passage that merges with it, then quickly go into the passage
and stand by its mouth. Wait until the slime is flowing next to the passage,
then click the jar from the sewer janitorial room on it to collect some
of it. If you're playing the CD version of the game, this can be tough.
Try slowing the speed of the game down.
I found a ladder in the sewers. Should I climb it?
Of course, dolt, it's the only way out!
I saw one of Vohaul's shuttles land on the street, but when I tried to
go to it and enter it, the Sequel Police shot me!
Remember, when you reach the shuttle, you can't just get in the cockpit.
Get in the open landing gear compartment, and you'll be transported to
the Super Computer building's landing bay. If you're playing the CD version,
you'll have to be fast. Keep trying until you make it.
I tried to go to the door on the right side of the landing bay, but the
Sequel Policeman there killed me!
He's just doing his duty; guarding the door. You can't go through the door
until later in the game.
On the left side of the landing bay, I see a time pod materialize and a
Sequel Policeman get out and start talking with another policeman, but
the two of them see me and I die!
You did know that you were going to be travelling through time quite a
bit in this game, didn't you? If not, I'm telling you now. You need to
enter the time pod that the policeman arrived in. Right when the two policemen
start blabbing to each other, click the hand on the time pod to enter it.
In the CD version, you may automatically be getting killed, no matter what
you do. When the time pod materializes, start clicking the hand on the
pod, and keep on clicking; Roger will get in after a bit.
I have to enter in some code to get in the time pod.
Open up the Space Piston Magazine that came with your game, and look for
the page with the "coordinate layout" on it, then based on the
message you get, look for the symbol you need, then enter it in.
What the heck do I do once I'm inside the time pod?
You need to utilize that keypad in it. Before you do anything, copy down
the code on the keypad's readout; if you've already punched in something,
restore. Then simply punch in any combination of symbols, and you'll go
nowhere. Punch in another one, and the pod will go back in time to Space
Quest X.
I can't get through the door on the right side of the landing bay.
See the first hint in the section:"Inside the Super Computer".
How do I get out of the time pod?
Flick the red switch to Roger's left.
I'm doing nothing but wandering around Estros. What should I do?
Walk west of the time pod until the shadow of a big bird passes over Roger,
then go back to the screen with the time pod and go down the rock stairs
in it until the bird picks you up and carries you to its nest.
What do I need to do in the big bird's nest?
Has a Sequel Policeman been dropped in the nest by the big bird yet? If
not, wait for a bit, and he'll fall in and be skewered by the sharp sticks
that make up the nest. Search his body, and you'll turn up a piece of paper
wrapped around a wad of gum. After you have the paper, click the hand on
the hole in the south side of the nest to escape from it.
Zondra keeps shooting me!
She told you to get into her submarine, didn't she? How about doing that,
huh?
How do I prevent the huge sea slug in the Latex Babes' city from eating
me?
You're in this stupid chair, right? Now, think about what makes this chair
different from all others. The shackles and the button on the armrest.
Ah hah, the button! Once the slug has broken the shackle on Roger's right
arm, press the button to zap its tentacles.
I got out of the chair, but the slug grabbed me and ate me before I could
get away!
You're not going to escape, so you'll have to do something else. There's
something nearby you that can kill the slug. The blue tanks of pressurized
oxygen sitting by the chair are what you need. As soon as you're out of
the chair, grab an oxygen tank and when the slug is pulling you toward
it, throw the tank into its mouth to make its insides explode.
Tell me, just what should I do when I'm at the Galaxy Galleria?
You're going to have to do various things at each store and then escape
via a time pod.
I can't get down the escalator without the Sequel Police killing me!
You're absolutely right. You can't, and you'll have to leave the mall another
way.
Where can I get some substantial money here?
Get a job with the manager at Monolith Burger to earn a decent amount of
money. If you're looking for a lot of money, use the ATM by Software Excess.
There's nothing to do in the Zero-G Skate-O-Rama except float around.
There will be later.
I can't get anything at Sack's.
Why would you want to buy women's clothes? Fine, if you're looking for
a reason to buy clothes, go to the ATM machine by Software Excess and try
using Zondra's ATM card on it. Then you can go to Sack's and ask Maebot
about buying some clothes. She'll pick out what you need, and you'll change
into it. Once you have it on, pay her and leave. Once you've done what
you need to in the woman's clothes, go back to Sack's and go into the dressing
room to change back into your normal clothes.
I don't have enough money to buy anything at Sack's.
You'll need some serious cash for this stuff. Go to the mall's Monolith
Burger and ask the manager about a job. You can earn what you need there.
What's the purpose of Buckazoid Bill's Arcade?
The Sequel Police will enter the mall in a time pod on the platform here,
but only after you've got everything you need from other stores. If you
wish, you can play Ms. Astro Chicken, which is the game on the left with
nobody in front of it.
I can't play Ms. Astro Chicken!
You know, you don't need to play this game at all; there's nothing important
about it. If you want to, though, the game will melt down after you've
played it five times. Slow the game speed down if you're having trouble
maneuvering Ms. Astro Chicken, and remember that from lower, it's easier
for her to lay eggs on target, but higher up, it's easier for her to avoid
more dangers.
What do I do at the Big and Tall Store?
Buy new pants and boots, of course. Speak to the salesdroid, and he'll
get you a pair of pants and boots that Roger will automatically change
into. When you are wearing them, pay him with the few buckazoids in your
inventory and exit the store.
Every time I try to walk into Monolith Burger, the porky manager throws
me out!
Monolith Burger never accepts customers unless they have all their clothing
on. You'll have to go to Big and Tall and buy some new pants and boots
before you can get in.
What do I do at Monolith Burger?
Talk to the manager until he offers you a job, then take it.
Do I have to play that arcade sequence to earn the cash I need?
No, you can always choose the "wimp out" option after you take
the job, and you'll still receive the money you need.
Making burgers is too hard!
Slow the speed of the game down; it may help.
I got kicked out of Monolith Burger for not being efficient enough!
That's okay. You can always restore or come back to Monolith Burger to
get the rest of the money you need. Oh, yes, and by the way, after being
kicked out, go to the front of the mall and retrieve the cigar butt that
the manager threw onto the conveyor belt when he kicked you out.
I'm at Radio Shock (Hz. So Good). What do I do?
You're going to need a plug for the laptop computer you got on Xenon. If
you're in the mall for the first time, you won't need one yet, so you can
leave the store. If you're here for the second time, see the hint about
the plug at Radio Shock (Hz. So Good) in the "Inside the Super Computer"
section.
Everything at Radio Shock (Hz. So Good) is way too expensive. I need money!
Ahh, too bad. You're going to have to get 2001 buckazoids from the ATM
by Software Excess to buy anything here.
I can't get into Software Excess.
Go two screens away from Software Excess, then come back and the crowd
will be gone.
What do I need at Software Excess?
Look inside the bargain bin by the door and find the Space Quest IV Hintbook,
then keep it. Pay the clerk for it, then leave the store.
What do I do with the ATM outside Software Excess?
You need lots of buckazoids from it, that's what. Go to the front of the
mall and get Zondra's ATM card that she dropped if you don't already have
it, then go back to the ATM and use the card on it.
The ATM did a facial scan, and I didn't pass it.
Guess why, bozo? You don't look like Zondra; you're not even a woman! Maybe
you ought to make yourself one for a little while. Go to Sack's and ask
Maebot about purchasing some women's clothes.
I passed the ATM's facial scan. What option do I choose now?
Select "clean house" to get all 2001 buckazoids from Zondra's
account. Yes!!!!
I think I have everything I need from the mall, now how do I get out of
here!!?
Go to the arcade and walk up to the sushi bar in the northeast corner of
the room. The Sequel Police will appear in a time pod, which you need to
escape in.
The Sequel Policeman in the arcade found me!
You can't stay in the arcade once the two policemen have arrived. Leave
and go to the Skate-O-Rama in the center of the mall.
When I go to the front of the mall after the two policemen have arrived,
they kill me.
You can't go there. Go to the Skate-O-Rama instead.
When I try to float around in the Skate-O-Rama, one of the two policemen
shoots me.
You'll have to evade the two policemen in here, then go back to the arcade
and get in the time pod. Right when you enter the Skate-O-Rama, float toward
the center of the Skate-O-Rama using the hand, but don't go into the opposite
screen. Instead, go up into the Skate-O-Rama's dome. When the two policemen
come into the dome and start shooting, quickly float back down to the screen
where you entered the Skate-O-Rama and exit via the stairs there, then
go back to the arcade and get into the time pod. Since this sequence can
be problematic in the CD version of the game, save as soon as you make
it into the dome, then keep trying and restoring until you've made it out.
Where do I go when I'm in the time pod in the arcade?
Before anything (I hope you haven't done anything), copy down the code
on the time pod's keypad readout. You'll have to go back to the original
version of Space Quest 1. Don't have the code, eh? Well then, look it up
in the SQIV hintbook, by using the hand on it in inventory to open it,
then using the hint revealer pen to uncover answers to questions. What's
that, sonny, only half of it is there? You should have that piece of paper
wrapped around the chewing gum that you got from the policemen in the nest
on Estros. Open it up in inventory and look at the three symbols on it;
this is the other half of the code. Enter the code into the time pod's
keypad (first the hintbook symbols, then the gum paper symbols).
What do I do once I reach the original version of SQ1?
You sure can't go in Droids-B-Us or Tiny's Used Spaceships; they're closed!
Go into the bar and walk up to the bar itself.
Three ugly punks sitting at the bar keep tossing me out, and I'm damn tired
of it!
Do something back to them, then! Using the hand, kick over their sandbikes
parked in front of the bar.
The third ugly punk keeps running me over with his sandbike!
Avoid him. As soon as his bike draws very close, click the walk cursor
on the ground by Roger to do a roll and avoid being crushed. This may be
a little tough, so save your game beforehand, and you can always restore.
Now that those punks are gone, what do I need to do at the bar?
Take the white matchbook on the left side of the bar.
Where do I go after I'm done in Ulence Flats?
I hope you copied down the code for Xenon when you were there. Enter it
into the time pod's keypad.
I'm back at the landing bay, and I can't get in that door on the right
side.
You need to melt that lock on it, because you don't have anything that
unlocks it. You should have collected some acidic sewer slime in a jar
earlier. If not, restore. Pour the slime on the lock, and it will dissolve,
allowing you access into the Super Computer.
Every time I walk down the tunnel behind the door, I get fried.
Those big rings you see lining the tunnel have invisible laser beams emanating
from them, and that's what's killing you. Try revealing the beams with
something. In inventory, use the matches from the bar in Ulence Flats to
light the cigar butt from the Galaxy Galleria, then toss the cigar into
the tunnel and the smoke from it will reveal the beams. See the next question
for how to turn the rings.
How do I turn the rings in the tunnel so I can pass through the beams?
You'll have to use multiples of twelve. Click the hand on the control panel
on the right wall to get a closeup of it. Enter in multiples of twelve
until the three rings' beams are aligned vertically, then you can pass
through them. You want to know the multiples? Okay. The first ring requires
you to keep entering 156 until the beams are vertical, the second requires
you to keep entering 024 until the beams are vertical, and the third requires
you to keep entering 108 until the beams are vertical. Remember, these
numbers will only work if the beams are at their original positions.
How the heck do I find my way on the Super Computer's catwalks?
You need some kind of map to help you out, although it won't be very detailed.
Plug the laptop computer from the streets of Xenon into one of the junction
boxes on the catwalks to get a readout. Once you're done looking at the
display, press the power switch on the laptop to exit.
I plugged in the laptop, but it has no power, and so I don't get the display.
Help!
You need a power source, nut case! You think there's a wall socket anywhere
nearby? Back in the streets, you should have nabbed the Energizer Bunny.
Look at him in inventory, then remove his battery, which is on his back.
Look at the laptop computer more closely, then put the battery into its
battery holder.
I can't plug the laptop into a junction box. What's wrong?
You either haven't got a plug, have the wrong plug, or you haven't put
it on the laptop. If you need a plug, Radio Shock (Hz. So Good) in the
Galaxy Galleria carries them. I hope you wrote down the code for the mall
back in the arcade. Go there and get the plug you need, then use the plug
on the laptop to put it on. If you don't know how to get a plug, look at
the salesrobot's screen, then select "Catalog", then "Electronic
Gadgets", then look for and order a Pocketpal Connector to bring up
a display of different plugs. Select the plug you need, then click "Top
Menu", then leave the store.
Which plug do I need to buy at Radio Shock (Hz. So Good)?
Back in the Super Computer, you should have looked at one of the junction
boxes and made a sketch of the shape of its socket. If you haven't, go
back and do that. That way, you'll know which shape plug you need to get.
Where exactly do I need to go on the Super Computer catwalks?
You need to first go to the central programming room and reformat the Super
Computer, then head to Sludge Vohaul's private "virus chamber"
and the final showdown with him.
Every time I enter the room on the north side of the Super Computer hall,
I get shot by twin lasers!
This is Sludge Vohaul's chamber, where he directs his moves as a computer
virus. You can't go in here safely until you've started up the reformatting
sequence. Go to the room on the west side of the Super Computer hall to
reformat.
If I wait around too long on the catwalks, a security droid shoots me!
Don't wait around too long, then; move quickly!
How do I get into the large room on the west side of the Super Computer
hall without being shot by a security droid?
From the beginning of the catwalks, go one screen north, then one screen
west, then down the far flight of stairs. In the next screen you come to,
wait until a security droid passes two levels overhead, then quickly go
back up the same stairs and go back to the screen where you started. Take
the horizontal catwalk in that screen all the way west to the central programming
room.
I'm in the creepy-looking central programming room, and I don't have the
numeric code to open the door there.
You wouldn't forget your trusty hintbook, would you? Okay, maybe it's not
so trusty; all of the questions but two are fakes. That second question
that I just mentioned is about what you're having trouble with. Open the
hintbook in inventory and look up the hint about being in a strange room
inside the Super Computer. Uncover the answers until you get the code for
the door, then look at the keypad on the door and enter in the code.
I'm in the programming chamber, and I don't know what to do on the computer
screen.
Drag the security droid icon to the toilet to get rid of all the security
droids on the catwalks, then drag the brain icon to the toilet to begin
the reformatting sequence for the Super Computer, then click the symbol
in the upper left corner of the screen to exit the screen closeup.
Every time I attempt to leave the central programming room after starting
the reformatting sequence, I'm shot by a security droid! Why?
Because you didn't get rid of the security droids when you were reformatting.
Before or after flushing the brain icon to reformat, flush the security
droid icon down as well.
I run out of time while the reformatting sequence is counting down!
Try slowing the game speed down, and leave it that way.
Where do I go once the reformatting sequence has begun?
Head to Sludge Vohaul's private chamber. If you don't know how to get there,
go back to the screen where you entered the catwalks, then go one screen
north, one west, one south, one west, up the lift, then one north, one
east, and north through the glowing door.
Sludge Vohaul is fighting me in my son's body, and he keeps killing me!
Be more aggressive. Every time Vohaul gets up and is ready to fight, walk
toward him rather than staying where you are; otherwise he'll continue
to throw you off the platform.
Vohaul accidentally got trapped in the beam in the center of the platform
after I fought with him. What do I do now?
Remember how just before he fought you, he tossed the floppy disk with
your son's personality over the edge of the platform? Go and get it. Click
the hand on the ladder running down the side of the platform, and Roger
will go down, then come back up with the disk in his possession. Put the
disk in the small pop-out console by the beam.
What do I do once I've inserted the disk into the console?
Click "Disk Upload" to load Roger, Jr's personality into the
Super Computer. Then click "Beam Upload" to load Sludge Vohaul's
personality into the Super Computer so he can be erased by the reformatting
sequence. Then make sure that the arrow on the list is pointing to the
name "Roger, Jr.", then click "Beam Download" to put
Roger, Jr's personality back into his body. Roger and his son will head
to a Xenon rooftop, and Roger, Jr. will show Roger a picture of his beautiful
mother, Beatrice, who is Roger's future wife whom he first meets in Space
Quest 5. Roger is then sent back to his own time via a time rip. Congratulations,
you have beaten SQ4!
